Walt Johnson,
Science Teacher
We are all related. All things come from stardust.
All parts of the web of life are important; no part should be valued more than another.
All subjects studied in school are related to each other.
Traditional Indigenous understandings and teachings form the foundation for teaching science at Nawayee.
Science at Nawayee is a blend of Western traditional science with Indigenous science and wisdom.
I have always had a love of the outdoors and felt part of nature.
I feel I have a special relationship with Mother Earth and love sharing my understandings with my students.
I received my BS degree and teaching license at Bemidji State University.
I live in North Minneapolis with my wife Annie, and our puppy dog Carina.
I currently enjoy long walks with Carina, perennial gardening, aquarium keeping, and spending time hiking near the North Shore of Lake Superior.
I am honored with being given two Spirit Names: “Tawa Wakan Gli” in Lakota that translates to “Lightning that Zig Zags”; “Mitigo Anaabe” in Ojibwe that translates to “Tree Man.”
